  • Member Me? I'm Like A Bad Case Of Herpes!

It seems that every time I come back to write it's always in an angry rant! Well, this time it will be different, I have nothing negative to say! Ok, not really. I do have something that's been eating away at me and I'm gonna vent here where only five people will read it...ha, ha. Ok, here it goes...

    WATW2

Maybe it's because I don't drink fluoridated water, or use toothpaste with fluoride in it, for that matter...but I have this inherent need to question things! It makes me angry to see all these artists (new ones this time) come together again to raise money for Haiti. And no, not because I see a dark political objective or because it isn't a good thing...it's because...well...because...

    Los_Angeles_Freeway_Map

It was filmed/recorded at Henderson Studios on La Brea Avenue. And just like before, when it was recorded at A&M Recording studios in Hollywood, it is only a few minutes drive from a place where there are people starving and without shelter. At least some of those artists drove right past people living in horrendous conditions on their way to the studio. I just don't understand our way of thinking. Why do we feel the need to send money, food and clothing to third world nations when we have people in need here???

Sometimes I think it's kind of like taking your sweet ass time when the collection plate comes by at your church...just to make sure everyone sees you throw in a big wad of cash. Is it going to a good cause? Sure. But your reward is the praise of men, and not a heavenly one.

Don't get me wrong, what am I doing for Haiti? Nothing really. All I'm saying is that we don't have to go very far in search of finding someone to help. Why can't all these artists do the same for the people here? That's all I'm saying. Ahhhh. I feel better now. Thanks, Xanga!

***Oh, and for the record, I think someone needs to tel Wyclef that he messed up the song. And another thing, since when do Auto Tune/Vocodors count as singing???

  • First off,I've missed you so much!
Second,I go round and round with this.
When disaster strikes you help because they can not help themselves.
I am not the regular Joe nor am I Mother Theresa but I have spent my life in service to others in one way or another...giving. I did not even get a diamond engagement ring or wedding ring because I would hate to wear that when others starve.
People in this country can ...for the most part get help if they want it....not everyone is capable of doing that but I believe that the majority can. I understand what you are saying,I would like to have seen everyone in that video strip off their gold and diamonds and give it to the poor.Give out of sacrifice past your surplus.
So good to see you again Miguel... I love you.

  • I'm with Beth. I've missed you, and I wish you would just... STAY HERE! Or get on facebook, haha!

It kind of makes me laugh that celebrities think they are doing so much when a disaster happens, or if they adopt all these babies from 3rd world countries... and yet you know that real life, poor life, here in the US does not affect them and they don't care.

It would only take $10 billion to fix the worlds water crisis. That's chump change here...

    Please stay!!!

  • I had a very similar conversation after seeing the new version on TV. I think you hit it right on target but would add that it is not just the individuals, but our government that finds it better to give to others instead of those at home. I think charity does begin at home and I believe many of the problems of the day could be helped (if not solved outright) by helping those in this country.

I too am happy to see you again.

  • I wonder the same thing. In NYC, homeless people with dogs always get more help from strangers than homeless people without dogs. It's almost as if people feel for the dogs and would rather help the animal than a fellow human being. We live in a strange world.

    Anyway, welcome back.

    -ray leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I completely agree. I think the attitude that a lot of people have about poor people in the United States is that they have the opportunity to do better and are choosing to be poor. It's sad.

It's good to see you back.

  • what you said.

    aaand what Beth said....

just -so much freekin need and pain everywhere....

and it wears out even the 'Good' -

feel guilty if i (we) whine -

    wiped out from tryin'....

    come quickly Jesus...

  • I've wondered the same thing myself. My purse is slender, but it's easy for me to find someone close by who is hungry or without a home, and it's there I share my belongings. It's not that I have a thing against helping another nation, but I know that entire governments will pitch in to help a nation, so as individuals I feel we should just look around us instead of crossing oceans to look.

I've missed you too, though I admit that I'm rarely here myself any more.

  • I have thought the same thing myself!!!

  • Looks like we both came back at the same time!

Great post...I am a huge fan of the original so I have not brought myself to even listen to the new one....some things should just be left alone!

  • Welcome back!

  • I have missed you. I have missed Xanga. I agree with what you have said. It is a shame that we are more willing to help people on the other side of the world than people in our own backyard. Expect an email from me sometime. I have a few questions for you.

  • Dude you need to come back

  • ;) understood.

“Like Christ, the essence of mission/giving starts with loving actions and compassion,
and it starts with the people around you.” [from Taiwanese translation ]

  • Plainly you still have more than 5 fans here on Xanga, Miguel.    It's good to see you again.

I get more pissed by We the Taxpayers feathering the nests of Wall Street bankers while folks in South Central L.A. and elsewhere remain homeless.  One of my recurrent fantasies is one where the million black men in the Million Man March all had guns, and a plan.

  • I was just making a funny comment on the theologians site. I remember it being a race to see who leave the first good joke. But now there is no competition anymore. I miss you

  • Hey, get your hairy ass back here!
