    THOUGHTS?????

  • Oh man, my parents will be sad over all the money they wasted sending me to a baptist private school. I actually had to look those verses up!

People in general seem more willing to help animals than other people. It could be that animals never have malicious intent - even if they hurt someone it's pure instinct. Or it could be that we figure if someone can't make a life for themselves they did something to deserve it or are somehow less deserving or hardwaorking than the rest of us. I haven't decided where I stand on this issue officially.

That sad, I laughed at this post. Witty social commentary and you didn't even have to talk anyone's ear off.

  • My favorite was your profile guy with a light bulb over his head...

And I'm a little dense when it comes to things like this, but if its what elvesdoitbetter said, then yeah, some people save animals and disregard the people. I don't mind people having a heart for animals. It's when they totally ignore people for the sake of animals that I get irritated. Case in point, the movie Happy Feet. I loved that movie because of the song and dance, but the message was messed up. At the end of the movie (it's about penguins for those who don't know), they show the humans deciding to ban all marine harvesting in that area to protect the penguin's source of food. So I'm thinking--what happens to all the people the fish were feeding?? But they don't go into any of that. Obviously it's just a kids movie and not really the time and place for it, but they implied that the penguins were far more important than a human solution to feeding the PEOPLE in the world! And that's messed up.

  • I wholeheartedly concur.

Forget about pictures being worth a thousand words... no words can even touch what you've said here.

  • I am not sure that I am supposed to laugh at this post, but it did make me think and giggle.  It is sad that dolphins die and yes we should save the trees and everything.  The very same people who are into the dolphin savin tree hugging hippy business don't see the homeless people that are around them.  Probably think they should just get jobs, get out of sight etc.  However, I don't know about putting dolphin suits on them.  Most homeless people are not scary.  Homeless people dressed as dolphins would scare the crap out of me.  I would never leave my house for fear of seeing one.

  • Wow. I had never even thought of that before. I would think of the dolphins and be happy to hear that people were trying to protect them. And that's a good thing. However... the people on our streets are ignored. Don't get looked at twice. Suffer. And die. Thanks for opening our eyes.

And thanks for the comment on my post. I appreciate it!

  • It's heartbreaking how people can turn their back on others. Apparently to qualify for help and compassion, you must be cute and aquatic. That's not to say that they're not doing wonderful things for animals, but those are human beings that are being ignored. Maybe people are more willing to help animals because they know how to do it; a few pushes and the animal can be on its own again.. humans need more than their physical needs met. There's never a question if the animal or a tree is abusing your good will. People find ways to rationalize that a person deserves this fate.

  • You hit the nail on the head. I once heard an interview with an animal activist who declared the life of a chicken was more important than the life of a child. SICK.

  • The homeless are the most marginalized community in the states. They are treated often worse than animals by city planners and legal authorities. It is a shameful indictment of our society when we treat our disenfranchised with overwhelming disregard.

  • I agree completly!!

I feel the same about those who spend all their time protesting at abortion clinics.....wondering how much of their time and money is spent helping abused victimized women or how many children with AIDS have they adopted?

I'm not pro life or pro choice but some people just have a screwed up sense of priorities.

  • My sentiments exactly. WTF????

  • there are ways to solve both problems......it is a matter of cost...and i don't mean money....everyone wants low income housing but not where they live.....everyone wants to save the whales but not if it means they have to pay $10 a lbs for wild fish.....or be left with human schooled fish...

  • Ok...while that is hysterical...the dolphin is helpless when it's beached...the beach bum is not.

  • I think faith gives people an excuse to believe things they have no proof for. But I must admit, I've had faith in things and the outcome was good.

  • I think I like wordless post. I have missed your post. I watched "White Squall" yet again this past week. The scene when the young kid shoots the dolphin, and then the man has to kill the dolphin, very prolific. I am sure the dolphin wasn't actually killed so I am cool with the lesson the story is trying to make.

    Hugs, Tricia

  • I am sure the lesson the boy was so supposed to learn is one that extends into all aspects of life, because he was a jerk before. I don't know have you seen it? I like you with the light bulb, bright.

  • I like this wordless post. It leaves one thinking and wondering about our human-ity.

  • In Vacation Bible School we collected personal items for health kits to send to Haiti where the kids did not even have pencils.I just bought a hundred dollars worth of art supplies and got sick to my stomach watching the video of kids getting pencils and tablets so they could write on paper instead of  in the dirt and getting soap for the first time. No matter how poor we were we always had crayons, pencils, paper and soap and enough food.

  • I wonder what the world would be like if every person who could afford food fed two people who couldn't afford it. I wonder what the world would be like if the people living on it cared for it as much as its Creator does.

  • Great post. Tis the most I have ever heard said with out hearing a single word. Well done.

  • Great post! We must reach out to other people, especially to those who need it the most..

  • Even more problematic is the apathetic people and how we procrastinate on our responsibilities as humans. In Relevations it talks about people who are neither hot or cold, in otherwords people who don't care. At least the dolphin and tree huggers care.....

Remember the little boy who cried wolf? Some of the homeless people are drug addicts and are crying wolf. Then again there are folks who have fallen between the cracks and are not detected as needy. Or when people who can't make their mortages because they were tricked into those adjustable rate loans... It is great to care and we are damned if we don't care...

  • Oh, baby, you should win some kind of award for this.  How could anyone giggle at this?  Even if I'd thought you meant it as a joke, there's no way I could have giggled even to placate you.  You can inspire me like few can.

I'm bringing you flowers for a brilliant performance.

  • ^^^Thanks, Fratmom!

  • Thanks Miguel. I am not sure where the song comes from either... I just liked it.

Where do you find your photos? Just curious.

    Hugs, Tricia

  • It's so sad. You want to help them but then sometimes you can't.

That's being a pessimist, but sometimes it's the truth.

  • Creative and inspiring.  Excellent!

  • Wow...  Incredible post..

I do have to say, though..  And maybe I might be a little out of line, because I don't know any of these people.  But people have the ability to help themselves.  Yes, some need encouragement and direction, and maybe they don't receive it.  And they should.  We really should focus more on our people..  But in the end, the reason many people are more likely to help animals is because animals cannot help themselves when they are taken out of their environment.  There are resources that people can use to help themselves.  Dolphins, when beached cannot just flop themselves back into the ocean...

  • I must say, these are very powerful pictures.

  • People are "messy" to help. Once they're no longer babies, they're no longer "cute". And since we ourselves are successful, ENTIRELY due to our own virtue and hard work of course, OBVIOUSLY those who need help have some personal failing. It's their own fault.

  • In case I did not express it ,I LOVE THIS POST!
Like Fratmom,I believe it is brilliant!

  • @juejee -

    What a great comment!

  • Well done as usual Miguel... You make me think like no other...
