  • Lady Justice Is Smoking Crack!

    vicsentenced

So this morning, Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his role in dogfighting rings. I won't even get into animal rights or cruelty, and yes, maybe there is a little bitterness on my part...but... the way my mind works, I always compare things like this to the sentencing of the Rampart scandal policemen, namely Rafael Perez (who has since changed his name legally to Ray Lopez) and how this compares to it.

So lets get this straight Rafael Perez served time from February of 2000 to July of 2001. That makes it about a year and five months (17 months total). What did he get convicted of? Only the stealing of 8 pounds of cocaine from a police evidence room (which he sold for over 800,000 dollars), involved in a bank robbery coverup in which 722,000 were stolen, and shot and framed Javier Ovando (who is forever paralyzed) on attempted murder charges. Of course these were just things that were proven, and led to his convictions. Of course there were many other things he did.

Then there's Michael Vick who was found guilty of fighting Pitbulls in which eight lost their lives, and he gets more time than Perez did? I'm losing faith in our justice system.

    Lady Justice

                                                                                            I knew it!

  • odd how sometimes there doesn't seem to be justice in justice...

  • You and me both, and there was precious little to start with.

  • I was kind of thinking the same thing.. but about a different case.. Amazing isnt it..?

  • There is no figuring it out......I love the law that says its illegal to have your dog in the back of your truck while driving......but its perfectly legal to let your kids sit back there!

  • Love the picture. Too funny.

Do you really think he's actually going to serve 23 months? He may have been sentenced that long, but being in the public eye I'm sure he won't actually be IN jail for even a year...

Good to see you post again, and that reality didn't completely consume you.

  • I see why you are questioning our justice system. I guess one of my thoughts though is that both men made bad choices and will suffer some consequences. What bothers me is when people COMPLETELY get away with evil acts. I always tell my kids that as soon as they realize and embrace the idea that life isn't fair, then they can be happy. We simply can't go through life comparing much of anything and expect to feel content. For the most part our choices and behavior will give us results that shouldn't surprise us, whether they are good or bad.

  • I lost faith in that a long time ago. Still, when a miscarriage of justice is so blatant it still makes my heart sink.

  • That is just crazy.

  • that is pretty pathetic...

there was this case a while back, i think it even got on operah.. it had to do with this woman who was married to an abusive and othello-esque husband.. it had gotten so bad that she got a temporary restraining order..

it came time for the retraining order to expire, and she went and pleaded for an extension.. the judge wrote it off as a marital dispute and refused the extension.. some time later, after the RO ended, mr. othello came to her place of work, beat her, doused her gasoline and threw a match... she survived...

the story ends with the bastard getting 30 years minimum, the idiot judge losing his job and being relegated to clerical work, since his excuse was a "clerical error" and the poor woman/mother having to deal with severe burns for the rest of her life...

i dont think its the legal system thats rotten... othello-guy got what was coming to him... but it was the idiot judge who is most guilty for letting this become a problem, and he also got what he deserved... blame the judge...

the system is fine.. the idiots running the system are.. well, idiots...

  • I know what you mean. It def needs to change - crimes should fit the punishments. For example what you did should be done to you. If that happened for awhile I would imagine crime would go down... maybe. An eye for an eye is not so bad. Just put a convicted murderer in a room with the family and see what happens. Just a thought.

RYC: I try to be fair hombre. He is just hard on me sometimes but I know he loves me. This mujere does give her man credit though. I did note all the good things he did - but we do tend to focus on the bad...

  • He will probably do 18 months and that is all she wrote. Yeah the justice system blows.

How have you been? I hope well. Someone's birfday is coming.

  • Lady Liberty is smoking crack? I thought Bush said we were winning the war on drugs?

  • You're now just losing faith? The day OJ was found not guilty was the day I realized if I never had as much money as he did, I'd be F*&cked in our "system of justice."

  • enforcement without checks will always lead to abuse and the group that you believe is the last one you need to worry about is the first one you need to worry about.

  • totally agree. the justice system is definitely too tied up in bureaucracy to notice the things inherently wrong for it. vicks gets more time than some child molesters. it's disgusting.

  • btw, i totally meant to suck up to you and ask you to proof read my spanish research paper via messaging. but you're an unreliable poster, and i want afraid you might change it up without me noticing and i would get marks all over it from the teacher saying "and where in the trans nationalization of cultural symbols from latin america do you read "titties?"

  • you're JUST NOW losing faith in our justice system? holy god. i have friends in jail for breaking and entering an shit like that, who got more time than child rapists and shit.

  • Amazing and disgusting.  They used to say that the law is an ass.  Now maybe it is the justice system that should carry that title.

  • You've referred to Ray Lopez in previous posts . . . yeah, our system does have corruptions . . . but think of the alternative, think of other countries whose system is far worse than ours.
Don't lose faith, man.  Don't.  As corrupt as it can be, it does work from time to time.

  • did you see that jessica alba anounced that she is pregnant? did you also see where fox is going to have a reality show to find the next elvira?

  • All I can say is, I agree.

  • Check out my latest blog entry... I need your input *smiles* I would really appreciate it *wink* It will be fun

  • I think you know what i think of he legal profession. I think the first qualification for earning a degree in law, is being diagnosed as a sociopath.

  • I would find it hard to believe that you EVER had a great deal of faith in our "justice" system, Miguel.
